The War on a Flower

The War On A Flower

Once upon a time there were two different kingdoms on a flower. One had only girls and the other had only boys. The queen of the girls was named Alexandra. The king of the boys was named Xavier.  The kingdoms lived in peace until Alexandra and Xavier had a big fight that Alexandra thought the boys had more land but Xavier thought this was untrue. They both declared war and that whoever wins will get the whole flower and the losing team will have to find a new flower to live on. As this was going on, a boy and a girl met at the middle of the flower and a friendship was born. When they heard about the war, worry swept over their hearts for their friend from the other side. Their names were Charlotte and Drake. They both were also surprised that the war was starting tomorrow. They couldn’t sleep through the whole night.

The morning sun filled the sky. Today is the day when the war is starting. As it started they each fought through the crowds that are now blending in. They met at the middle. “What do we do?” asked Charlotte. “Let’s go to the edge” Drake suggested. The two had the long run to the edge where they met again. They were so happy that they were out of the war that they hugged each other so tight that they could hear each others heartbeat. As they let go, a swirl of magic with a beautiful aroma arose high over the flower covering it with pink clouds. As the clouds came down the war started to end as a draw. Willingly, the leaders joined together their kingdoms and made a wonderful place with love, friendship, and beauty. Charlotte and Drake were so happy that they could yell. After Alexandra and Xavier got married, the kingdoms were joined forever. They all lived happily ever after.

You don’t need a superhero to save you, love is a hero itself!

Niya - 2nd Birthday

With no plans for a full-fledged celebration, neither an ad-hoc plan happening, birthday would be made special with a trip to the Bannerghatta zoo where Niya would get a chance to interact with the animals that she has so far only seen on TV or in charts. I woke up early and went to play football with Thoma and friends.Niya had been unwell for sometime. Her cold and cough was still strong.Myself, Divya and Divya's parents got ready for the trip but seeing that Niya was still weak, we decided to cancel the trip to Bannerghatta and replaced it with a trip to our yet-to-be-occupied flat in whitefield

Birthday dress shopping had been done the earlier day.Niya herself chose a red dress for herself. We showed her various dresses and asked her which one she liked and she always pointed to this one.

For her toy gift, she received a set of Alphabet tokens. She was all involvement as she placed the letters in their placeholders on the board.

Grandma prepared tasty samiya payasam. After an early lunch, we left to the flat.Post lunch, Niya started showing signs of improvement. Her playfulness struggled to break through her sore throat and feeble voice. She kept improving. We went to Maniyan's home first where Adi vaava and Niya played.

Then we reached the flat where Niya kept playing with the switches in various rooms. As I was busy trying to get the key for the apartment,I could not spend much time with Niya. From the flat, we moved to the

childrens' play area where Divya helped Niya play.

On the return trip, birthday resumed limelight that had been temporarily overshadowed by the flat. We stopped at coffee day and bought the choco forest birthday cake.As Divya's friends were slated to come home, we stopped the car and ordered ghee rice , appam , pepper chicken , chicken varuththarachchathu from 'Tharavadu' hotel. The cake might not be sufficient for sharing with neighbors. So one more cake was bought at Sweet Chariot.Grandparents had brought birthday goodies - fancy candle and happy birthday letters.

As it was getting late , we decided to cut the butterscotch cake and share with our neighbors. So, the first birthday cake that Niya cut expertly after blowing the candle was of butterscotch flavor.

That is right, she cut a second one as well a little later closer to her birth time.(10:50 PM). Well , Divya's friends could not turn up as one of their friend met with a bike accident. So, chocolate was brought out , happy birthday letters were placed on the cake and lit.Lighting up the happy birthday candles took so much time that the first lit letters started melting down on the cake.Niya blew off all the letter candles as well as the age candle.

By the by, all along , she was in her birthday dress. So that is how it went - a very homely birthday..

25-10-2010

Today, I was slightly less attentive to Niya and it reflected immediately as shrieks when I tried to take her from her mother.Nowadays, she repeats the instructions that we tell her.If we tell her,"Angane.." , she will say the same "Angane" in the same tone.
Yesterday,I had scolded her a couple of times - once for playing with powder, once for jamming the car AC with the banana peal and a few such cases. This was in contrast to the last week as such where she has had a happy time with me playing with her more often than usual. So, she was in a touchy mood.
Today, while having lunch, Divya suddenly exclaimed "Be careful - you will fall down".Taking this for another of scoldings that she has been receiving in the near past, she started weeping but got quickly consoled.

Niya-11th October

Niya was playing in the water in the bathroom.Divya took the mug away and she started shrieking uncontrollably bending her body backwards and all..Divya thought let it be and gave her back the mug..Niya immediately stopped shrieking and said 'thaankoo.."

Niya-5thMarch2010

My dear daughter has started turning pages faster these days. She walks around balancing herself with her hands holding on to teepoyee / wall etc. Athu pole muttil nadakkum pretty far.
Today she went on her knees from hall to the bedroom and started removing clothes that had been packed properly. To distract her , I tried taking her and putting her on a different corner of the hall. But she figured her way back.Next I tried closing the door. She pushed the door open just sufficient to let her pass and navigated her way through.Vaashi nannaayittu koodiyittundu. The moment I pull her from the cloth basket , she starts shrieking.
She is very possessive of her mother.Whenever I sit near Divya, she comes between us.She has also got used to both of us going to work. She knows that we will be back only in the evening. When I come in, her joy escapes her but she would still not let go of her mother's arms easily always.
She starts shouting and having fun whenever she feels like it.Today , she started shrieking(not her usual voice) - Achcha Achcha.. This went on for some time
and we had a good laugh.
